German Shepherd Handbook Review

german-shepherd-handbookIntroduction: The German Shepherd Handbook is an e-book dedicated to the German Shepherd. The book is written by Michael Tapscott who has owned several German Shepherds himself as well as working as volunteer for a dog rescue center. The German Shepherd Handbook caters to everyone who has a German Shepherd or who intend to get one. The idea with this German Shepherd Handbook review is to help you to find out if this is something of value for you. I will also show you where you another great site where you can learn everything about training your German Shepherd.

What is included in the German Shepherd Handbook?

There are 8 Chapters in the book going through the following:

Chapter 1: Chapter one gives you an introduction to breed, it also goes through what you need to do before getting a German Shepherd and also three qualities you need to posess as a person if you want to get a German shepherd. Chapter 2 gives you more information about the breed, where it comes from, how it has developed over the years, the breed standard, and the breed’s popularity and the effects it has had on the breed.

Chapter 3 is about finding and choosing Your German Shepherd. This is an important chapter since choosing the right dog can make a crucial difference on how things turn out later on. The chapter includes a step by step guide on the things you need to look for when choosing your German Shepherd. It goes over how to find the right breeder or shelter to get your German Shepherd and also describes where you should get one from. Furthermore it explains the difference between a male and female dog and whether you should get an adult dog or a puppy.

German shepherdThe fourth Chapter is all about how to feed your German Shepherd and what food you should never give it. Chapter 5 is about preparing your home so that is safe when your dog or puppy arrives. It also goes through how to minimize the problem of separation anxiety and how to introduce your German Shepherd to another dog.  Chapter 6 is about training your German Shepherd. It covers, housebreaking, general dog training tips and some problems such as biting or ignoring your commands. This chapter gives some good tips and ideas but dog training is such a big issue soo what you get in this book is not enough to cover all areas of training and all dog training related problems you might face.  Chapter 7 covers grooming and its about taking care of your dog’s fur, teeth, claws and ears. Chapter 8 is about potential health problems, what to look for and how to prevent them.

Bonus material

With the German Shepherd Handbook comes 8 bonus books. They cover training myths, dog diet, how to prevent biting, how to make your dog part of the family, dog names etc. The Handbook will also be updated regularly and when you buy it you will get free updates.

Price and Guarantee

The German Handbook costs $39.95 and comes with a 60 days money back guarantee. This means that you can buy the book (it is an e-book so you simply download it after paying) use it and if you are not happy you will get your money back and you also get to keep the book. You can get the German Shepherd Handbook HERE

Conclusion

German shepherd with owlIf you are really interested in German Shepherds then this book can be of great value. The added bonuses also are also valuable so I do consider this product worth buying, especially since you have a 60 day money back guarantee. However, if you really need to learn how to train and well take care of a dog, then there is another solution which will give you a lot more information as well as feedback. The problem with any dog training book or e-book is the lack of support. You need a place where you do not only find advice on how to train your dog but also  where you can ask questions and get answers on how to proceed.

The Online Dog Trainer is such a place. At the online dog trainer you will learn by watching a professional dog trainer work with clients dogs. Watching this on video will make it a lot easier to understand, then if you have it explained in a book. Then there is The Forum which is really a vital part of the Online Dog Trainer site. The forum is a place where you can ask questions and get answer from the professional dog trainer Doggy Dan. Here is my review of The Online Dog Trainer.

So, if you want to learn more about the German Shepherd and get advice on how to get one, then I do recommend The German Shepherd handbook. If you really need to learn how to raise and teach a dog, then the Online Dog Trainer would be your best choice.

As usual, if you have any comments or feedback please leave them below.

  • Hi Jojo,

Very informative site and covers every aspect for dog owners. My sister-in-law has always had German Shepherds for as long as I can remember.

I’m sure if she had known about this site she would have been very interested to read this, not that she ever had any behaviour problems but this book covers everything!

Your site has a great layout and works well.

Have you ever had any negative feedback from customers or are they all positive?

    Best wishes,
    Craig.

    • Hi there and thank you for your comment.

So far I am happy to say that I have not had any negative feedback about the products I have recommended. I am very careful when recommending something so hopefully people will continue to be happy with their purchases.

  • They are big a look like they can be fierce but most German Shepherds I’ve met are really calm in nature. They seem like a loyal breed of dog.

My little boy wants a dog, we have all on taking care of a 3.5 year old without taking on a dog as well! 🙂

Will will get a dog when our son is a little older. Its’ a toss up between a German Shepherd or a Labrador.

    • If they are raised properly, German Shepherds are calm by nature and make excellent family dogs. The Labrador is in fact the most popular dog in the United States followed by the German Shepherd. Both are great family dogs.

      Good luck!

  • I love it that there are books catered for different breeds of dogs. The general misconception that all dogs behave the same. Maybe a few behaviours but I am sure each breed has its own distinct characters / personalities.

German Shepherds are huge dogs but they are also very good guard dogs. I love to look at their beautiful and strong body, as well as their very handsome-looking faces!

Very good review of the book!

    Cheers!

    • Hi, it is true that different breeds of dogs have different characters and temperament and this also varies from individual to individual. Training does not differ soo much though between the breeds and most methods work with most dogs.

  • This is some good honest advice for any dog owners. I like the fact that you mention that this is a good book specifically for German Shepherd owners but that you can get better value elsewhere via the online support and videos on the site that you recommend. I intend on owning another dog someday soon, possibly a golden retriever. I will be certain to check out to stop by again then.

    • Yes, this book is specifically for German Shepherds, but dog training does not differ that much from one breed to another. Certain breeds (as well as certain individuals) are more dominant or stubborn than others. This book is great for anyone interested in German Shepherds but if you really need dog training with support then the Online Dog Trainer with Doggy Dan would be the best choice.

A Golden Retriever would be an excellent family dog. They are very social, soft and friendly and great with kids. Feel free to contact me if you need any help or assistance with anything.

  • German Shepherd are a beautiful dog. I have a friend that has one, and I watch him once in a while. Would this book be helpful for tips on when I am watching this dog. He is a very well mannered guy. When I am keeping him at my house, it is usually for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. I enjoy having him.

    • Yes, The German Shepherd Handbook would be helpful for knowing how to care for and how to train this dog. This guide is really complete and teaches you just about anything you would like to know about German Shepherds. German Shepherds really are beautiful. They are very intelligent and easy to train. German Shepherds are being used as police dogs, they are used for rescue operations, they work as blind dogs many, many other things as well. The German Shepherd is the most popular dog in the world and the second most common in the United States.

  • I love your review, very comprehensive.
I have two dogs one small and one medium and they’re great but like all dogs take some looking after.
My young nephew seems to have decided the next family dog should be a German Shepherd and rather than just give a flat no we are trying to educate him on the requirements and demands of looking after and training such a breed.
Thank you for providing such good information on this product.

    • The German Shepherd actually works well as a family dog if it is trained correctly. A German Shepherd is an active dog though and it needs a lot of activity and exercise. Since you already seem to have experience of dogs you will not have any problems owning a German Shepherd, they are easy to train.

  • The bonus to this site has to be the 60 day money back guarantee. This clearly states that the author is absolutely certain of his information and is so sure that it’s so useful he put a guarantee on it. This site is so informative. I wish I had seen it years ago when I had a German Shepherd. Your content is direct and to the point, German Shepherds are such beautiful, courageous and dependable creatures. They are also tough and can be very scary, the information about training dogs left me wanting to know more. The manner in which the information has been presented makes it easy to follow and the instructions are easy to follow as well.
People often think that all dogs are the same, the book clearly outlines the distinct character and temperament of German Shepherds. The content is overwhelming in an exceptionally good way, it is exactly what one should know before owning a dog. I like that for every information that you offer, there’s a link to substantiate that information. Every time I read something and start asking questions in my heard you offer a link with the exact answer. I am grateful for the knowledge that will help me to better understand and deal with my dogs.

This is clearly information for dog lovers who want to learn how to prevent being bitten by their dogs, and how to keep their German Shepherd clean and healthy. The information includes easy tips and advice on how to get the happiest and most well mannered German Shepherd.

I have read and re-read everything in this site and I honestly can’t find anything to criticize. I found it to be informative and relevant, everything has been thoughtfully put together. Clearly a lot of thought was put into this. Congratulations on job well done.

    • Thank you for your input and your kind words. I really appreciate it.
The 60 day money back guarantee really do make this product worth trying. You can buy, read it and if you don’t like it you can ask for a refund and you get to keep the product as well. But it really is good and the refund rate is very low, people are happy with it.
German Shepherds are absolutely fantastic dogs. It is not for nothing that they have become the most popular dog in the world. And as you know, German Shepherds are used by Police and Rescue forces all over the world. Their courage and intelligence are legendary. The German Shepherd is a dog who adapts itself to different situations and they are also easy to train. As long as they are well educated and get enough exercise they are not difficult to deal with and will make a great family dog.

  • I appreciate the way you have explained what is covered in each chapter. I also have never heard of a book like this coming with a money-back guarantee. That’s good to know! Years ago my parents had a German shepherd that was a retired police dog. She was one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever seen. They are a fascinating breed but definitely not for everyone. Thank you for an informative review.

    • It is an e-book sold through Clickbank and all their items comes with a 60 day money back guarantee. The nice thing is that you can buy it and try it and if you are not satisfied, you get your money back and you get to keep the book.

German Shepherds are amongst the smartest dogs of all, but they do require an active owner so like you say they are not for everyone.

  • German Shepherds are awesome dogs! Iv’e always lived with dogs, iv’e had all types from big to small, but iv’e never had a German Shepherd before, but i feel that one day i will.

Thanks for sharing this review, as a dog lover that genuinely would like to get a German Shepherd one day, im interested to look further into this German Shepherd Handbook, and with a 60 day money back guarantee it makes me feel comfortable about purchasing

    • Thank you for your comments. Yes, German Shepherds really are awsome. It is not for nothing they have become the worlds most popular dog, not mention the work they do for police and rescue forces all over the world.

  • I love big dogs although I can’t keep them in my house right now. One of my previous neighbours used to have German Sheperds. As a little girl, I was always enthralled by them.

This looks like a useful guide to German Sheperd owners and those who seek to get one. Does it also cover their diet?

    • Yes, this guide covers diet, in fact it covers just about everything. German shepherds are great, just like you I also love big dogs.

      Thank you for your comments

  • Thanks for the information. If I went go to the store to get a book on German Shepards and picked up this one, I would expect it to cover the training as well. I am glad you brought the lack of training in the book to my attention. It seems the book is good for understanding the breed and the best places to find one. The online dog training is a great idea. I remember taking our aussie to puppy school, was a hassle and not much one on one. Mostly just gave her treats! (looking back, not a good idea). Do you know if Danny will be doing future videos?

    • The German Shepherd Handbook does cover training but if dog training is what you really need then there are better options.

The The Secrets to Dog Training by Kingdom of pets retails for 39.95 and it will give you a lot more information on dog training than the German Shepherd Handbook. The Secrets to Dog Training (the link goes to my review) also includes a lifetime access to a forum where you can get assistance whenever you need it. Another option would be the Online Dog Trainer where you learn dog training by watching dog trainer Doggy Dan work with various dogs. The Online dog trainer also includes a forum if you need help.

Both options are good, the online dog trainer is a little bit easier to follow as it is video based but it is a membership site where you pay a monthly fee of 47 dollars where as the secrets to dog training is an e-book where you pay a one time fee of 39.95. Both of them are really good dog training guides.

      I wish you good luck

  • I have never owned a German Shepard but when I was a kid I had a Labrador that was mixed with a German Shepard. I don’t know if this matters or not but could you use this information to train other types of dogs or dogs that are mixed with a German Shepard. I know it might not be the best fit but all of my dogs growing up and now are all mixed breads. What are your thoughts?

    • Yes, you can certainly use methods to train any other dog as well. Dog training is not differ that much between different breeds. Sure, certain breeds are more stubborn than others but generally speaking this training would work with any dog.

  • hello
German Shepherds are awesome dogs! • Thank you. Well it is not without reason that the German Shepherd is the most popular dog in the world and that it is used by the police and rescue forces all over the world. These are fantastic dogs but they need stimulation and exercise so like you say they are not for everyone.
